Love Alone Is Worth The Fight- Fight For Love

I’m finding that our greatest struggle in life is with and for Love.  We instinctively wish to experience love and we will do whatever it takes to feel like we possess it, as if it were an object. We will look to friends and family for it. We will obey the rules. We will try to fit in. We will acquire degrees. We choose a profession. We will date. We will marry. We will have children. We will purchase a home and have a pet and a big-screen t.v. Status quo….

When fitting into the lifestyle everyone says we should have and when looking for approval and worthiness from others proves unfulfilling, or all together missing, we will continue our search to other things, substances and people outside of ourselves. Yes, we humans, will lose ourselves, our true self, for a semblance of love- acceptance and worthiness. This is the fight we are born into.

Many have translated the words of the powerful, wise-man, Jesus saying,”For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” – Matthew 16:26

I learned a little of the language and uncovered some of the true depth of its meaning:

“How does it help to have an abundance of material things, money, status, degrees and so-called “friends” but lack the true experiential knowledge of peace, love, selflessness, freedom and friendship with The One True Self?”

Or

“How does it help if you gain knowledge of all this physical world but lose touch with your True Self, the Divine Image? What could you give that would be worth the image of your true essence, your original humanity?

What we are searching for is timeless and deathless. What we are searching for will never be found in or received from anything or anyone around us in its complete and perfect expression. Search as you may, it will never be found out there and you will be left unsatisfied over and over again. When that restless, habitual, agitation begins to work on you, try to remember the emptiness that follows the action you are compelled to do- the way you objectify IT (video games, food, money, cars, shiny things, new clothes, new hair, drugs, alcohol, women, porn, stealing, etc.).

Love, alone, is worth the fight. The victorious war is waged in a way that few understand. That means many are failing and getting their *sses brutally kicked. But this *ss kickin’ has its benefits if we will open our minds and pay attention. It is not with will power that you will overcome. What you need, what you are searching for, is already within you, but no one every told you, explained it to you and showed you. But, I Can and I Will if you’ll let me. You can live your life losing this battle or you can find your identity and live on purpose. The choice is yours. You can be sure you’ve found it when you find yourself turning to and becoming– a place of satisfaction, rest, peace and hope, when that restless, habitual, wandering, frustrating agitation tries to compel or impel you.

“Love Alone Is Worth The Fight”- Switchfoot

I’m trying to find where my place is
I’m looking for my own oasis
So close I can taste this
The fear that love alone erases

So I’m back to the basics
I figure it’s time I face this
Time to take my own advice

Love alone is worth the fight
Love alone is worth the fight

And I never thought it’d come to this
But it seems like I’m finally feeling numb to this
The funny thing about a name is
You forget what the reason you were playing the game is

And it’s all an illusion
A 21st century institution
So I’m headed down the open road unknown

And we find what we’re made of
Through the open door
Is it fear you’re afraid of?
What are you waiting for?

Love alone is worth the fight
Love alone is worth the fight

We’re only here for a season
I’m looking for the rhyme and reason
Why you’re born, why you’re leaving
What you fear and what you believe in

Why you’re living and breathing
Why you’re fighting it and getting it even
Let’s go headed down the open road unknown

And we find what we’re made of
Through the open door
Is it fear you’re afraid of?
What are you waiting for?

Love alone is worth the fight
Love alone is worth the fight

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh! Oh!

Here we are, here we go
Where the road is our own
Hear it calling you home
Here we are, here we go!

Love alone is worth the fight
